Blue Combo Holly

Holly - Blue Combo, Ilex x meserveae 'Blue Princess' and 'Blue Prince', is a slow growing upright evergreen shrub that requires sun to part shade and acid soil.

This unique combo was introduced in 1964 and is still worthwhile in the landscape; very popular broad-leaved evergreens for gardeners. If they are planted in the same container, you will get a profusion of bright red berries!

Their glossy, deep-green foliage is appreciated all year, and for the Christmas season, nothing looks nicer than an arrangement featuring holly stems adorned with bright red berries!

If you are into attracting birds to your garden, this holly blue combo is excellent as they eagerly seek out the berries. It is best to plant this combo in moist, well-drained, slightly-acidic soil that is rich in organic matter.

Choose a location in partial shade, since shelter is needed from winter sun and winds that can cause desiccation and browning of leaves.

Use as a foundation plant or as a specimen plant in shrub borders or perennial gardens.

The Blue Prince is the male pollinator for the Blue Princess.
