A coarse-textured, larger growing clumping Ornamental Grass that produces amazing feathery seed heads that are dramatically showy perennials and show off in both fresh cut and dried arrangements! It displays graceful, lush, sharp-edged, green foliage with creamy, fluffy white to pinkish plumes!

Bold, showy, specimen plants, Pampas Grass (Cortaderia) make great backdrops or screening! These are great low-maintenance landscaping plants that come in a variety of sizes and shapes! This popular Grass is a very fast grower and can become quite large! Be sure to plant somewhere that gives it plenty of room to grow!

Using Pampas Grasses in Your Garden!

These Ornamental Grasses are tough and aggressive and can grow 10 to 13 feet high and spread six feet wide and some dwarf varieties can be much smaller. They make useful privacy screens, windbreaks, and camouflage for unwanted views.

Outstanding when planted in mass plantings or as an accent plant. These versatile selections look great in the garden border, as an effective background for perennial beds, massed together in perfect military precision, or used in long, natural drifts.

Try a single plant as a specimen in containers or as spillers around the base of larger potted plants. Or use this sophisticated Grass around seating areas in or on front porches in the sun, around the poolside, or on a sunny deck. Integrate these lovely plants into your garden and mix them with other perennials.

These Grasses can also be drought tolerant once established and very popular in low water, water-wise, and xeriscape gardens - inspiring relaxation with their long stems, dramatic plumes, and gentle swaying.

Should I Plant Pampas Grass in My Yard?

Pampas Grasses can spread by seeds and runners and are regarded as being invasive in some areas. Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to ensure that you are not able to purchase any plants that are prohibited by your state because it's an invasive species or to prevent insects or diseases from being introduced to any area where it is restricted.

Where is the Best Place to Plant Pampas Grass?

These Grasses are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 6-7 and up to zone 10. Once established, Pampas Grass care is minimal - water in extreme drought, full sun, and an annual haircut! This Grass can be given a balanced fertilizer following pruning to help stimulate regrowth. Pampas Grass can be grown in partial shade, but you may have stems that are not as strong and vertical.

These warm-season perennials are very adaptable Ornamental Grasses! Warm-season grasses green up later in the spring, but really shine once the hot, dry summer weather kicks in. This plant is tolerant of drought, salt sprays, and wind!

Give this large clumping perennial a 3 to 4-inch layer of mulch around the plants to help keep the roots cool in the hotter summer locations.

Do You Cut Back Pampas Grass?

Enjoy Ornamental Grass plumes in the fall and winter for their interest, standing tall through the snow, then it is best to prune to the ground late fall or spring. Rake out the clump to remove dead debris and leaves. Tie up the bunches and begin trimming with sharp shears or electric shrub shears if you have many plants to trim.

Every 3-5 years, it is recommended to divide your clumps in very early spring before they begin to grow. This helps keep the crowns free of dead debris, prevent overcrowding, and maintain their vigor.
