You literally can't go wrong with easy-care Fool Proof™ Gardenia (Gardenia x 'Leesix' PP# 32472). Decorate your garden with these compact, upright plants with outstanding fragrant double flowers in spring; watch for sporadic reblooming right through fall.

Each cunning white flower has double rotate petals. The outer whole petals don't overlap but the inner whorl petals do overlap. They look and smell amazing in a vase as a cut flower!

Planting and Application:

The team at Southern Living Plant Collection have spent years field-testing the performance of this vigorous, disease-resistant, pest-resistant, heat-tolerant beauty. It's even cold-tolerant to Zone 7, a big advantage over other selections.

• Broad-leaved evergreen Fool Proof Gardenia makes a terrific shrub for foundation plantings. It will stay low and tight to fit perfectly underneath windows without much pruning.
• Create scented hedges anywhere you want year-round color. Space them 30 inches apart on center; measuring from the middle of one to the middle of the next.
• Keep one in an outdoor container to bring a glamorous touch to your Balcony Life! Run several of them the entire length of your railing to hide away any tedious views.
• Hummingbirds and butterflies love these aromatic, nectar-rich blooms. Use them to provide architectural structure in a Butterfly Garden or mixed garden bed.

#ProPlantTips for Care: 

Gardenias will perform in either full sun or partial shade with at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. They will do best in well-drained, slightly acidic soils.

• Add symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster to the planting hole for support that never "wears out". Apply pine bark mulch over the root system; then pull it away from touching the stems. Get expert planting tips from our Horticulture Staff.
• Use the Finger Test to determine when to water. Poke your finger in the ground up to the second knuckle. If it's damp, skip watering; but if it's getting dry...it's time to water.
• Prune to shape as needed after the first flush of flowers is finished. Remove crossing branches and any branches that may be damaged; trimming at a 45-degree angle.
