If you love frilly little flowers that glow in the moonlight, you'll adore First Editions® Crème Brûlée™ Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa 'Bailbrule'). These fine-textured, compact shrubs produce an astonishing amount of double-white blooms. From the late spring all the way to fall...Crème Brûlée™ is a visual treat for you and your guests. Like its namesake, this favorite shrub is smooth, sweet, and very easy to fall in love with!

Each bloom has a double layer of overlapping petals that surround a brilliant yellow boss of short stamens. The overall look is both crisp and soft, just like that creamy and decadent dessert that is its namesake! While you may not be able to eat this dessert, the butterflies and bees will gather around its charming blooms in a non-stop natural display also looking for a nectar and pollen-rich treat!

Delectable Crème Brûlée™ Potentilla is a deciduous flowering shrub that stays upright and rounded. Perfect for beginners and experienced gardeners alike, there is hardly an easier shrub to love than a Potentilla! This modern cultivar was chosen for its gorgeous blooms that are held in profusion above the finely cut foliage.

This pristine selection is gracious about sharing, too! You'll have plenty of flowers to cut for rustic arrangements indoors, and to use at your outdoor dining room table. The fine-textured foliage is even a lovely addition to bouquets as greenery! You'll feel great about this choice!

Planting and Application:

Crème Brûlée™ is super cold-hardy! Invest in this plant to protect against the vagaries of a changing climate while supporting a wide variety of beneficial pollinators at a local level! They have an energetic air about them and effortlessly boost your tasteful casual contemporary life.

This sophisticated selection makes an eye-catching flowering display on commercial properties. Get people talking with this rough, tough, and darling option! Anywhere you have full sun all day long - Crème Brûlée™ Potentilla is a perfect choice. Rugged enough for Rock Gardens, but pretty enough to mingle among their Rose bush cousins, a Potentilla fits right into any style!

It stays small enough to edge low-maintenance shrub borders, edging, and even facer shrubs to hide the leggy stems of older bushes! A few will become delightful skirting to highlight a tree, sculpture, flagpole, or mailbox!

If you have a lot of ground to cover and need a virtually deer-proof option; add additional rows in a staggered zigzag. Mulch between the plants and keep newly installed mass plantings weeded until the mounds grow together and touch. Develop an informal hedge by planting them two feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

Grow them in the ground, or keep them in pots and planters. All they really ask is full sun and well-drained soil to perform at 5-star levels! Include a new terrace with cozy seating nearby. Decorate your borders, patios, and front walkways with Crème Brûlée™ Potentilla, both in urns or half whiskey barrels or in the ground! You'll smile again and again at its appealing good looks. Run a deliciously free-flowering curve of Crème Brûlée™ along the sunny side, or flank either side of your door with a matched pair of exterior containers.

Rehab your existing plantings for a fresh, cheerful look. Take one or two out and replace them with Crème Brûlée™ to breathe new life into your home's facade. Even tiny lots or courtyard plantings can get their just desserts. Add these as a backdrop to other pollinator plants for a modern Pollinator Garden. Add a weather-proof box and keep binoculars, watercolors, and paper inside to try your hand at "plein air" painting to capture the dance of your butterflies!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Have we mentioned full sun? These low-maintenance cuties need at least six hours of direct sunlight a day to produce that prolific flowering display. Select a site with well-drained soil, too. Elevate them in raised beds or keep them in containers if your soil suffers from poor drainage. Water them carefully during the first season in the ground to establish their root systems, and water during long droughts. Keep container plants consistently hydrated. A touch of fertilizer and a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch around the plant's roots will give them insulation and support.

Prune lightly in late winter or early spring for size or shape but do not cut to the ground each year. Rather, about every third year, cut out a few of the oldest thickest stems to the ground and leave the younger stems in place to rejuvenate your plant.

  • The Most Blooms in Full Sun
  • Highly Adaptable to any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture - Drought Tolerant Once Established
