Imagine a flower of such elegance and beauty that it has inspired Japanese artists since ancient times! Eileen's Dream Japanese Iris (Iris ensata 'Eileen's Dream') are noted for their massive, vibrant blooms of stunning beauty. Their wide, crepe paper-thin petals cascade down like a waterfall of vibrant maroon-purple color and are sure to make a dramatic statement in your landscape!

The blossoms of Eileen's Dream are further accentuated by a splash of bright yellow that accents the base of each individual petal. Tall, and slender enough to fit almost anywhere, Eileen's Dream is a tough perennial yet still a lovely, delicate plant that is sure to add charm to your garden!

Japanese Iris displays its exquisite blossoms in spring atop statuesque stems that can reach up to 36 inches in height so you won't miss a moment of its spectacular summer show! It is generally quite hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, and very sun, chill, and heat resistant. Deer tend to pass it by and it's a favorite for hummingbirds and butterflies.

Planting and Application:

Eileen's Dream will add its wide-spreading petals to your landscape, adding brilliant plum hues to Pollinator Gardens, Cut flower gardens, and Sun Gardens alike, shining among other perennials, flowering shrubs, and around garden sculptures, mailboxes, and garden benches.

Long after the flowers fade, the sword-like leaves form lovely clumps and backdrops to your landscape beds. Groupings and long winding rows increase the impact these perennials have! German Iris do wonderfully in a wide range of conditions, from pampered Cottage Gardens to Rock Gardens alike.

Pollinators tumble over these exquisite blooms, too, butterflies, and bees, and a few Hummingbirds will drop by for a treat! Pot up in containers around your seating areas as a bold thriller accent that adds upright texture to mixed planters, or as fantastic specimen plantings as single-specimen container gardens!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Iris are so easy to grow and Japanese Iris do best in full or partial sun (in hotter climates) and almost any kind of well-drained soil. These Iris thrive in moist, well-draining soil, but can be drought-tolerant once established. Provide regular moisture during the growing season and supplemental moisture during prolonged drought and heat.

In cold growing zones, Iris rhizomes should be top-dressed with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch, especially in winter to protect them from frost. Deadhead the flowers as they fade and trim back the foliage in the autumn. Every 3-5 years, divide the clumps and rearrange the rhizomes to keep them in tight formation and to prevent them from being buried too deeply, preferring to be planted more shallowly in the ground. It is a hardy, disease and drought-resistant plant.

  • Easy To Grow In Full Sun
  • Moderate Moisture Needs & Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Most Well-Drained Soil
  • Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Trim Stems in Late Autumn
  • Pest, Hardy & Disease Resistant

Information About Bare Root Iris

Plant Iris about 15-18 inches apart. Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.

When planting, make sure 1/3rd of the rhizome is exposed to sunlight with the roots buried underneath. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover them in the spring.
