EH Wilson Mimosa Tree
A touch of the tropics for your yard!
Ernest Henry “Chinese” Wilson was a man on a mission. Specifically, that mission was to collect plant specimens for the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, MA in the early 1900’s. He is responsible for the introduction of thousands of plant species from the Far East to the West.
On one particular visit to Korea in 1918, he was staying at a small hotel and fell in love with a tree in the courtyard. He collected a few seeds and sent them back to Boston. It would be almost 4 years before the seeds were planted in the Arboretum. The New England winter was harsh that year one hardy little tree survived and was named after its discoverer. So, we now have a very tropical looking tree that will survive New England winters!
EH Wilson Mimosa Tree (Albizia julibrissin ‘E.H. Wilson’) is a great mimosa tree with silky, tassel-like pink flowers that bloom all summer long. The fern-like leaves provide soft dappled shade for your garden. Perfect in tough urban areas as well as traditional suburban gardens, this tree demands to be seen. Plant it where you can enjoy it from the inside and the outside. The airy flowers and subtle fragrance will enchant you all season.
This is a very fast growing tree. In full sun it will quickly grow to 30’ high and wide. It is very drought tolerant and is even ok with road salt being tossed at it in the winter.
