Drop Dead Red™ Rose Tree

Availability: Out of stock

This is quite a Rose. Can you handle the intense color and outstanding form?

We've expertly crafted one of the best red Roses into an incredible statement plant. Drop Dead Red™ Tree Form Rose (Rosa 'WEKcharlie') stands out in any landscape because this beautiful Rose is trained on a 24-36 inch standard tree form with a straight, sturdy trunk! Enjoy those blooms on-point with a perfect balance between warm and cool tones nearer to your eye level. Your new garden focal point features velvety Roses for months. You'll be absolutely thrilled with the high level of performance!

These showy Floribunda blooms are held in clusters of fully double Roses! Each precise, pointed bud is a vision and opens to an impeccably well-formed bloom! The blooms won't fade the way some of the old-fashioned varieties do. Drop Dead Red™ remains that astonishing true red all the way through from bud to drop. As you might imagine from the name, this Rose isn't meek or mild. With 25 - 30 petals per bloom, it lends your landscape a sleek, designer style!

Atop its straight trunk, the foliage is compact and dynamic, with a rounded canopy of lush, deep green, ultra-lustrous foliage. Use the incredible, fiery shade of the blooms in your indoor cut flower arrangements. Don't forget to include the dark green foliage as an amazing contrast.

Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 through 9, this 3-5 foot tall Floribunda Rose shrub has been expertly grafted to a 2-3 foot tall standard, elevating it head-and-shoulders above many other plants in your garden like a beacon! With very good disease resistance to those commonplace Rose challenges, you'll have a few reasons to spray. This modern Floribunda really has it all! It blooms its head off for you, without asking much in return.

Planting and Application:

This high-end plant is low effort, as well. Grow it in the ground, or place it in a large container. Keep it watered and fed, and pruned once a year. Drop Dead Red™ Rose Tree would look fantastic on your front porch and be a magnificent addition to your Rose or formal border garden. It's even urban-tolerant, so would serve as a beautiful accent on an apartment balcony! This voluptuous red Tree Form Rose is a wonderfully modern way to accent your home or condo.

A simple rule of thumb - Pop this decorative accent plant in an area where you want heads to turn and eyes to be drawn to it! Use them near your front door to boost the impact of your entryway. Flank a pair on either side, if you have the space. Or, use a single tree in an offset, mulched garden bed. Style them as you like. For a bold look on the patio, try them in charcoal gray resin containers. Line them up to create an easy backdrop for a very stylish summer.

Use a restrained approach with a low-maintenance planting of Red Carpet Sedum or Black Scallop Ajuga planted around your Rose Tree. Or layer in complementary colors to make a statement, like underplanting your Drop Dead Red™ Rose Tree with Invincibelle Wee White Hydrangea and Blue Mist Bluebeard. Revel in a variety of tones of Cheyenne Winds Coneflower.

Drop Dead Red™ Rose Tree Form will look amazing, no matter what you pair with it. From contemporary casual to formal, this hard-working accent tree will become a standout. Go all out and pick up a few of Drop Dead Red™ Shrubs for a dramatic multi-level and multi-layered red display! Your butterflies and honeybees will feel they need black tie attire when visiting your garden!

Create a stunning look in an island garden bed. They'll look best in odd-numbered groupings. Place one, three, five or seven in a line. Curve the jaw-droppingly beautiful line, or keep it straight. Measure six feet apart on center, from the center of one to the center of the next.

How fun to enjoy the perfect, red blooms up close on this tree-form plant. Our experts take such scrupulous care of their creations!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Rose Trees need a planting site in full sun for the best blooms. Provide six hours of direct sunlight with a focus on the morning sun to dry their leaves of dew faster. They'll also need well-drained soil that sheds water quickly. Improve drainage with a raised bed. Simply create a berm - mound up an additional soil 18 inches high by 3 feet wide and finish with a landscape edge.

You can easily grow them in containers filled with a rich organic soil mix. Water carefully to ensure they receive a medium amount of water on a regular basis. You'll want to apply an organic, slow-release fertilizer in late winter and again in mid-summer. Follow the application rates on the package. Cover the entire root system of in-ground and container plants with a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch chips for insulation and moisture regulation.

Rose Tree Pruning & Care

Plant Rose Trees in a protected location or move them to a safer area for the winter. Wrap their pots and trunks and apply an extra layer of mulch and leaves. Keep new blooms returning with occasional deadheading, quickly improving your overall display.

Early each spring, after the last frost has passed, it's always a good idea to prune back the Rose tree several inches to maintain the nice round form atop its trunk. You can prune back the canopy hard in early spring to about 12 inches if needed. The canopy will grow right back and bloom for you on new wood. Cut back to a healthy, thick bud that faces outward. Prune out crossing branches and eliminate branches that grow into the center of the canopy.

Pruning Roses allows for better, bushier growth each year and stimulates new growth. Remove suckers and branching that form at the base or on the trunk each year as well.
