The delightfully unique and deeply saturated blooms of the Whetman Pinks® STAR SINGLE™ Eastern Star (Dianthus 'Red Dwarf') will have you aghast at their cheery faces each early summer!

Also known as Garden Pinks, or Border Pinks, Dianthus have a profusion of lovely Carnation-like blooms. Displaying deep, dark pink blossoms, with deeper-red eyes and soft pink flecks and brush-strokes throughout the lightly toothed-edges! Such a color combination!

Blooming in early summer, this welcome burst of bold color draws the eye and every hungry pollinator in the area! These also carry the traditional Carnation scent, spicy, sweet and clove-like! The centers of each bloom have a light pink to white spray of stamen, much like a shock of fireworks!

Faster-growing, these form dense clumps of grassy, delicate foliage and colonize an area fairly quickly! The mounding and spreading silvery, blue-green leaves are finely textured and add lush skirting around the base of larger plants or garden hardscapes when not in bloom, creating a gorgeous carpet in the sun.

How to Use Dianthus Eastern Star In The Landscape

Dianthus Eastern Star truly is a star among your landscaping beds and borders! Creating a clean perimeter, defining the garden from the lawn, or contouring your walkways and drive. Imagine long winding banks of these bright blooms along your favorite path or welcoming your guests as they walk to your front door!

Perfectly suited for cottage and informal rustic styles as well as being a perfect addition to pollinator gardens! The long stems rise above the foliage and are perfectly suited for long-lasting blossoms in floral arrangements and bouquets!

Their love of hot, dry sites and sandy or gravel soil makes them ideal for rambling throughout a rock garden! Use around the base of other plants to skirt their roots as a groundcover that keeps their roots cool and their leggy bases looking neat.

The tidy, compact mounds are also great in urban gardens and fit neatly into today's smaller lot sizes with a burst of color! Also great for sunny planters around your patio and act as the perfect, colorful 'spiller' in container plantings and window-boxes!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Eastern Star loves the full sun and not doing very well in anything less. To keep your red flowers looking their best, be sure to plant in a well-drained site that gets regular access to consistent, yet moderate moisture.

Once established, these Dianthus are perfection in rocky, hot, dry sites and can tolerate occasional drought. But to ensure the best look to your plant, be sure to give them adequate water during the summer months and during long drought periods.

Partly evergreen in warmer climates, these are hardy in an amazing USDA growing zone range of 5 through 8! Standing up to heat and humidity very well without shrinking or dying back.

Once the bloom has finished, you can shear back the plants to maintain a tidy, dense clump throughout the summer and into fall, even promoting a rebloom in the fall on occasion.

Deer and rabbit resistant, it's only the butterflies and beneficial pollinators you'll see visiting your blooms.

Dianthus STAR SINGLE™ Eastern Star Garden Pinks are sure to sell out quickly, so if you see this gorgeous beauty in stock, be sure to give Nature Hills a call right away! These bold red blooms won't last!
