Diamond Spire™ Gardenia

Availability: Out of stock

Add a showpiece to your garden this season with distinctive Diamond Spire™ Gardenia (Gardenia x 'Leefive' PP# 32516). This compact, columnar plant has wonderful blooms and very glossy, ovate and crinkled foliage to keep your interest all season-long.

Part of the Southern Living Plant Collection, the single white blooms of Diamond Spire feature that incredible Gardenia fragrance people love so much! You'll get a lot of value from this cultivar, as it first flowers in late spring, then begins intermittent flowering cycles through fall.

Planting and Application:

Perfect for either outdoor containers or in-grown growing, upright Diamond Spire fits beautifully in small space gardens. Even if you have other Gardenia plants, you'll be forgiven for adding this unique stunner to your collection.

  • Butterflies love the single blooms as much as you do! Don't miss out on their rich nectar resources in Butterfly and Pollinator Gardens.
  • You'll have months of natural plant perfume nearby for living aromatherapy. Even out of bloom, the wildly unique, evergreen foliage brings a smile to your face in wintertime.
  • Use them as a showy "Thriller" in winter-hardy containers for many years. What could be more sophisticated than a matching series in sleek, urban pots to add interest on your terrace or pool deck?
  • Pair them with Crape Myrtles, Viburnum, Hydrangea and Camellias in a mixed shrub border. Make selections that play off each other's bloom color, texture, shape and bloom time for a hard-working landscape feature.
  • Crafty gardeners can even grow this lovely selection as part of a Lifestyle Garden. Harvest the blooms and distill into heady homemade essential oil for candles, soaps and lotions; it's reputed to ward off colds and respiratory infections.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Grow in full sun or partial shade where it has at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Well-drained soils are best...mound up or keep in containers if you have heavy, soggy soil.

  • When planting, add symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster after the hole is dug for support that never "wears out". Get expert planting tips from our Horticulture Staff.
  • Establish the root system the first year with careful attention to watering; then, put your Gardenias on a regular schedule of watering for best flowering. Apply mulch over the root system, and pull it away from touching the stems.
  • Prune to shape as needed after the first flush of flowers is finished. You can snip any wayward branches as needed anytime of year.
