Fragrant Ornamental - Great for Small Spaces

Crabapple - Brandywine, Malus 'Brandywine', is a rounded deciduous small crabapple tree with dark green, red-tinged leaves. The leaves are dense, ovate, often lobed, and up to 3 inches long.

‘Brandywine’ produces red buds that develop into an abundance of double, fragrant, pink flowers. The fruit is a yellow-green, approximately the size of a cherry and loved by wildlife; during the fall this fruit provides added color to the landscape.

The fall foliage is mottled green, yellow, orange and orange-red. This tree does well in most soil, but should be fed peat and compost; thrives in full sun in any moderately fertile, deep, well-drained soil that is moist throughout the growing season.

It has some drought tolerance, but will lose leaves if it is not watered during prolonged dry periods.

Since 'Brandywine' is a smaller tree, use it in limited spaces such as a courtyard, a foundation bed, or as an espalier.
