Requiring moist soil, these need supplemental watering in the summer heat and drought. A generous layer of summer mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

The thick leathery leaves have good powdery mildew resistance but for best results, provide a location with good air circulation. Morning sun is helpful in preventing this as well!

Prune your Phlox back in late autumn after frost has reduced these herbaceous perennials down for the year. Remove dead foliage completely to not give fungus and mildews a place to winter over until next year, plus it leaves a clean winter appearance.
