Purple Petticoats Coral Bells
The Heuchera 'Purple Petticoats', Heuchera micrantha, is also called Alumroot and Crimson Bells. It is a robust, stocky Heuchera that's easy and reliable. This plant is simply superb!
It is a new Dan Heim’s introduction that is destined to become one of the best from the entire line of coral bells. The solid dark purple leaf has an intensely ruffled edge and is simply dramatic.
As in most Coral Bells, the flowers are insignificant, but the strongly ruffled leaves are a rich chocolate with bright burgundy undersides, and you actually see the bright purple undersides of the leaves as they curl up!
'Purple Petticoats' flourish in compost-like, well-drained soils with morning sun; fertilize once in early spring as plants are flushing out.
It is best to allow plants to dry out a bit between waterings since coral bells do not like soggy, clay soils.
Try 'Purple Petticoats' in combos with purples, yellows, and reds. A mass of 'Purple Petticoats' by a blue hosta would be striking!
