Cool Gold In Summer Heat

Echinacea Summer Sun (Coneflower), Echinacea 'Summer Sun', first opens to a luminous red-orange then fades to a golden orange, adding a bright, sunny color to a garden; petal tips are nicely curved too, adding to its outstanding appeal.

Plant these fragrant flowers in the back of a border and enjoy the ‘Summer Sun’ all season long.  This coneflower is a sun-lover that withstands heat, humidity, drought, poor soil, and even cold without dropping a petal!

It is a long lasting flower that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and is great in cut flower arrangements!  The bright, intense flowers are supported on strong stems; best if grouped or massed.

This Echinacea will present a season full of orange daisy-like flowers and is praised for its prolonged blooming after other perennials have faded.

Divide clumps when they become overcrowded (about every 4 years.  ‘Summer Sun’ usually reblooms without deadheading, but if spent flowers are removed, this procedure will encourage continued beautiful blooms and improves general appearance.

Highly fragrant, this coneflower keeps coming all summer on tall plants with excellent branching.  This plant is deer resistant.

If you leave some spent blooms on the plants in fall their seeds provide winter food for birds.  You can enjoy the dried seed heads as well, because they will provide architectural interest in the winter.

Enjoy ‘Summer Sun’ and its golden yellow blooms which will surely brighten up a sunny corner of your garden!
