Chocolate Persimmon produces sweet, spicy, firm, juicy, dark flecked, late maturing, with chocolate brown flesh when grown with a pollinizer. The flesh will be orange and seedless without a pollinizer.
The Chocolate Persimmon is small to medium, oblong cylindrical fruit with a rounded apex and bright red skin. It has superb flavor and is often the choice of connoisseurs. It is astringent until ripe.
Chocolate persimmon fruit can be eaten hard like Fuyu persimmons but they are best when ripened. When ripe the flesh becomes sweet and buttery!
The fruit can be used for cakes, cooking, drying, freezing, or pudding.
Chocolate Persimmon is self-fruitful, very productive and ripens in November. It requires 200 hours of chilling and is hardy up to zone 7.
This tree blooms prolifically in the spring with gorgeous white and pink flowers. In the fall the leaves turn to neon yellow.
Chocolate performs best in full sun, but they will tolerate some light shade. It performs best with a pH level of 6 to 6.5.
