Catesbaei Trillium (Trillium erectum ‘Catesbaei’) is a very unique perennial! If you want to amaze your neighbors and friends, plant a few of these in your landscape.
Native to North America, this perennial wildflower is commonly found in nature, in rich woodland soil in the shade.
The beautiful 3 petaled flowers nod beneath the leaves, with a hue of pastel pink, purple or white. A whorl of 3 elliptical leaves that are actually bracts of the flower on a green to purple stem finish out this amazing plant.
Find a shady area underneath an evergreen tree to add this splash of color. With the beautiful flowers they attract pollinators for their nectar.
Added interest of this plant is they also have six sectioned, reddish berry-like capsules with small brown seeds each with a protein rich fleshy elaiosome attached to attract ants to disperse the seed.
Catesbaei tolerates drier conditions than other trilliums and is found in acidic soils often with rhododendrons. Plant in humus-rich, well-drained soils in part shade to full shade.
