Availability: Out of stock

Lemony yellow blooms for your garden! The First Editions® Lemon Meringue™ Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa 'Bailmeringue') is a little flower powerhouse! This small, space-saving (2 - 3 feet tall and wide) shrub will pump out light yellow, double blooms all summer that look for all the world like small Wild Roses.

Compact and densely branched, this is the perfect flowering shrub for those with limited space. The fine-textured green, pinnate leaves do a terrific job of filling out as a backdrop to the starry blossoms, the perfect backdrop for the intense blooms. Rich with nectar and pollen for all types of beneficial pollinators, you'll enjoy seeing the amount of wildlife these lovely blooms attract!

Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 2 - 6, this shrub was bred on the plains of Manitoba Canada at the Morden Research Centre, and you know that if it can make it there it can surely thrive in your cold winter sun garden! Lemon Meringue™ is a super-easy care shrub that requires little-to-no pruning to maintain its compact round form.

Planting and Application:

The fine-textured leaves seem graceful but the chipper little blooms and easy care nature? Planting a Lemon Meringue™ Potentilla is like planting sunshine! Just about every yard can use a few perfectly sized Potentillas. They are versatile and can fill many landscape applications!

This North American native cultivar keeps its shape and looks great as an alternative to typical Boxwood or Holly hedges in the summer. Plant it as a foundation hedge or in your perennial border for a flower display all summer long. Planted on a sunny border, the yellow blooms shine and attract pollinators galore!

Maybe you have a hot south-facing slope or embankment that is hard to mow. Everyone has one of those spots in the garden that is hot and dry, and nothing seems to do very well. Lemon Meringue™ Potentillas are great for xeric-scaping and fire-wise landscapes alike! Mulch the area and mass in a group of Potentilla for an easy ground cover for you. Because it tolerates urban conditions, use this in commercial settings. This is an outstanding plant to use in mass plantings!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hardy to arctic USDA growing zone 2, this is one tough shrub that can survive the harshest winter with a laugh and a smile. On top of that it is also drought-tolerant! They are low-maintenance and flowers best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. They can handle a variety of soils and resist disease and insects. Once established, Potentilla will tolerate very tough conditions and periods of drought. A touch of fertilizer and some arborist mulch around the plants will give your plants a great start to a colorful summer.

It is best pruned in late winter to control its size and shape. Pruning is simple and may only have to be done every other year or so until the plants have been in place for a few years or more. In late winter or early spring, simply remove the tallest and thickest stems out right to the ground leaving the thinner stems in place to flower profusely.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Highly Adaptable to any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
  • Prune Late Winter To Shape
  • Remarkably Easy to Grow & Versatile

That's a lot of praise for such a little plant, but trust us, First Editions® Lemon Meringue™ Potentilla lives up to the accolades! We know you will be completely happy with this little flower machine. Order yours today at!
