Plants that Work® for You

We've all been there, looking at a freshly uncovered garden bed after a long winter can be exciting, exhilarating even. However, you don't want rush and buy the first plants you come across at the local garden center.

You'll need a plan, a way to organize your space, and most importantly, plants that will work for your space, climate, and time constraints. There's no need to navigate all this on your own, the Plants that Work® brand will be right there with you every step of the way.

The brand offers an assortment of products specially selected for their top notch qualities. From perennials to shrubs, annuals, to tropicals, you'll find everything you could ever want within Plants that Work's ranks.

Choosing the Best from the Rest

Since its founding, this brand has been searching far and wide for plants that stand the elements, emit excellent, non-fading color, and give terrific texture to landscapes.

Regardless of the size and space you're working with, Plants that Work has exactly what you're looking for. Do you have a smaller space where every square foot matters a great deal and must leave an impact? Try a Chocolate Shogun Astible.

Their dark coloring makes a bold statement while spreading very little. You can count on this plant to only take up a couple of feet of real estate but each spring it'll burst upwards with spires of white plume-like blooms.

Pair it with traditional green foliage like that of the Perfecta Trifecta Butterfly Bush. The green leaves can create texture against the purple of the astible while the lavender, pink and violets of the flower pannicles compliment wonderfully.

Or you can use the butterfly bush as a gorgeous border plant along the edges of a larger property. Planting a couple in a line is a great way to make a show-stopping hedge that is sure to leave the neighbors feeling envious.

Plus, as an added bonus, you'll find your garden aflutter with pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds. Both are notorious lovers of Perfecta Trifecta's nectar. Sit back and enjoy the extra hustle and bustle these colorful visitors will bring to your yard.

#ProPlantTips for a Plants that Work Garden

Luckily, there's not much that goes into growing and keeping one of these plants happy. They've been specially selected due to their easy to grow nature. Rest assured, these plants can survive nearly on their own.

For flowering plants like daylilies, full sun or partial shade is best to keep the color as radiant as possible. Flowers like Coreopsis love to bask in the rays all day long and will do better the more sun they're given.

If you have a shadier yard, plants like Silver Heart Brunnera will thrive and you don't have to give up an ounce of unique color in return. Its silver foliage will catch your eye and refuse to let go.

Like most plants, you'll find that well-drained soil works best to keep roots happy and healthy. Too much-standing water and you run the risk of root rot. If you're worried about the drainage of your garden, try making a pile about 18 inches taller than the surrounding ground and plant there.

Not sure what the drainage of your soil is? Consider pouring water into the hole you've dug for your plant. If you come back an hour later to find the hold empty again, congrats, you have well drained soil.

Deciding on a Layout

It's always a good idea to brainstorm a layout before browsing the collection below. A great landscape starts with the back row plants. These are your hedges, tall shrubs, and possibly trees. They give privacy while providing a backdrop for your middle plants.

These middle plants aren't too tall but aren't too short either, they're just right. These can be your low-to-the-ground boxwoods, hydrangeas, and daylilies. Remember to pick plants that flower at different times to keep the garden colorful all season long.

The front row is where you can let your colorful side out. These will be perennials like Coreopsis and coneflowers interspersed with foliage plants like brunnera or angel trumpet.

The ways you can pair plants together are infinite, it's why each garden is gorgeous in its own unique way. This year, paint your botanical masterpiece with Plants that Work.
