Fabulous Taste, Great for Storing
Northern Highbush, Early Mid-Season
The highly productive Draper Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum 'Draper PP15103'), is an introduction from the team at Michigan State University in 2003. This is a true hybrid mix of Vaccinium corymbosum crossed with a 5% mix of the low chill varieties, Vaccinium tenellum, ashei and darrowi.
The Draper Blueberry has one of the most complex flavors. It's a true super sweet, sub acid treat.
Named after the highly successful USDA blueberry breeder, Dr. Arlen D. Draper, the qualities of this fruit have propelled it to being one of the most frequently planted varieties in the world. Often compared to Bluecrop, the superior qualities of the Draper are the firm berries, and the wonderful rich Blueberry flavor.
This early mid-season variety boasts large, powder blue, firm, excellently flavored berries. With delicious flavor and excellent firmness, the fruit is unusually regular and is presented in a loose cluster; easy release of ripe fruit from loose clusters and bears fruit on a strong, small stature bush.
This is a heavy producer of uniformly medium size berries. Yields of 10 to 15 pounds of fruit per plant are common.
The large fruit has very high fresh quality and a long storage life. Thicker skin gives the fruit a great crisp texture and a resistance to splitting. The color stays true, even after harvest.
You will appreciate how easy it is to pick the fruit from a Draper Blueberry. This is a leading choice for home gardens in the areas where Northern Highbush do best.
Draper has a compact habit. Integrating a Blueberry plant into an ornamental garden is often called edible landscaping. Providing year round beauty in the garden, and delicious food in the summer, Draper works beautifully as an edible accent plant!
Delicious Blueberries are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, namely Vitamin E, folate, magnesium, potassium, copper, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and manganese, and is a very good source of dietary fiber. With their crisp, sweet, firm berries, Draper will make you forget how good they are for you.
