How to Use Prairie Winds® Blue Paradise Little Bluestem in the Landscape

You'll draw the eye with this grass, so use it wherever you want to call attention. Use a single plant in a large container by the entrance to your outdoor entertainment area. Add a second one to flank either side of your front or patio door.

Use a series of them in a row along the length of your patio plantings. Or, repeat them along the length of your sunny garden borders, Rock Gardens, or raised planting beds.

Place Blue Paradise Little Bluestem on the west side of your outdoor seating arrangements. Add a nice cool beverage of your choice and enjoy your landscape. They'll catch the rays of the setting sunlight. This display is a magnificent way to celebrate the end of the day!

You'll want to plant them 18 inches apart on center, so they grow together in a solid screen. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. They make incredible massed plantings. Add staggered, zigzagging rows to cover open ground. Mulch between plants and keep new mass plantings weeded.

Use straight rows of military precision to suit contemporary, modern architecture. If you prefer a more relaxed, natural retreat, plant them using curved lines and vary the spacing from 18 to 24 inches apart.

#ProPlantTips for Care

This is a vigorous, tough Ornamental Grass that withstands adverse weather conditions. It can handle heat and humidity without missing a beat. Give it full sun and average, well-drained soils. It needs at least 6 hours of sunlight a day but will take more if you have it.

Provide a moderate amount of water to get new plants established in their first season. After that, they'll display a drought-tolerant nature. However, in extended droughts, we do recommend applying supplemental water to protect your investment and keep plants stress-free.

Prune them back once a year before the new growth appears. Grab the old foliage and cut back in early winter to a 4-inch height. Wear gloves to protect your hands, and consider using a garden saw to make it easy on yourself. Cut the old stalks into smaller pieces and use them as mulch in your vegetable garden. Be patient with warm-season grasses because they are a bit slower to green up in the spring.

This beautiful cultivar of our native Bluestem will become a treasured favorite in your landscape. Order your Prairie Winds® Blue Paradise Little Bluestem today. Don't miss your chance! People across the country are hungry for the incredible silver summer and dark Cabernet wine purple fall color.
