Blue-Eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium bellum) is a native to states west of the Sierra Nevada. Like its name implies, it looks like a clump of grass for much of the year. Nothing really to write home about.
But then…in the spring…hold your hats! The most gorgeous blue-verging-on-lavender flowers blink open and totally steal the show from every other flower in your garden. Then after they bloom, they go dormant and the entire plant quietly disappears into the ground for the heat of summer. Don’t worry, though. These hardy little guys come back like clockwork every year (that is of course if you don’t get them confused with other grasses and pull them thinking they are weeds before they bloom again!).
They are adaptable to just about any soil, even heavy clay, so we know that you can find a place for them in your garden. They even grow well under oaks, which is a notoriously difficult place for flowers to thrive. They spread easily, but slowly. If you’re patient you will have a nice colony of these petite beauties before you know it.
They are drought tolerant once they get established and they are deer resistant from day one.
If you live where Blue-Eyed Grass is happy, then this a definite “Do Not Miss” for your native garden. Order yours today!

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.
