Mulching in Southern Regions

Mulching in Southern Regions

Now that the soil has warmed in the southern zones, it is time to freshen up your mulch around your plants. If you mulch too early, you slow the soil from warming up. Plants like Roses, Azaleas, and Camellias will all appreciate having a 2-3” layer of mulch over the roots (not more so if there already is enough no need to add additional). Be careful not to pile any mulch up against the stems where they come out of the ground, all plants hate that. If you live in the northern zones, you will likely want to wait until May.
