Spreading bold color, the Big Time Blue Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia 'Armtipp01') is an outstanding new Lavendar offering that sends up fragrant deep royal-blue spikes from early summer until fall! This revolutionary Lavender variety blooms bigger and earlier in the season!
Lavender is already beloved for their highly aromatic silvery-green-gray foliage and flowers with a million uses around the home, the garden, and for yourself, but the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will all celebrate when you plant one in your garden as well! Use the waving blue wands for crafts, for fresh and dried décor, as tea and flavoring, bath and beauty, gifts, and of course, imparting that relaxing scent throughout your home and garden!
Big Time Blue loves Mediterranean-style climates throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, preferring more arid and xeric sites, sun, and heat! Growing into a vibrant bush 18-24 inches tall when in bloom, and spreading to a hefty 24-30 inches wide, Big Time makes a big impact on the garden!
The low-spreading, compact nature of these woody shrubs means aromatic path and walkway edging, fragrant garden bed borders and facer shrubs, and herbal skirting around Roses, shrubs, and trees! The scent can drive away unwanted pests in the garden, so use these plants around your seating areas and as companion plants! Must-haves for the Pollinator garden, cutting border, and Herb Garden, Lavender fits right into sunny vegetable and Victory gardens and kitchen gardens too!
Big Time Blue is easy to grow and love in the Xeric Rock Garden as it is welcome in the Cottage Garden! Plant en masse for a sea of waving blue wands or add to a Sensory garden or meditation station in your garden to help you relax and settle the mind. Great spillers in containers and planters, there's no place that doesn't benefit from a few Lavender plants!
Lavender grows best in full sun and well-drained soils, with neutral to alkaline pH. Also preferring an open, sunny spot, because lack of sunlight will cause a wide range of problems, as will poor drainage. Being highly drought-tolerant, less is more for Lavender plants. Water consistently to establish and after that, only water during extreme drought. For better drainage, add sand in the hole when first planting to aid drainage further. Deer and rabbit resistant, don't worry about them!
Trim back in spring to encourage bushier growth and remove any parts that died back during winter. Big Time should be pruned back the first year to encourage branching. To encourage blooms to return all summer, be sure to deadhead after flowering.
In cooler climates, it's recommended to plant Lavender in a sunny, south-facing area that's protected from cold. These plants can even be brought indoors for the winter or into a greenhouse because they can be evergreen bushes in mild winters. Cold planting zones can still enjoy Lavender as an annual accent!

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.
