Earl Grey Approved!
This is a tree for a true citrus connoisseur. Bergamot Sour Orange trees are not grown for the same reasons other citruses are grown. You can’t juice them, or really cook with them. The fruits are almost inedible. So why would you grow one?
Bergamot Oranges, Citrus bergamia, have been grown in France since the 1700’s because of the amazing essential oil found in their skins. Bergamot oil is used in over a third of all men’s cologne and over half of all women’s cologne on the market today. And when you heat up a cup of Earl Grey or Lady Grey tea, that distinctive smell that comes from the cup? – Bergamot.
This is a classically-shaped citrus tree that is a must-have for a collector or fan of botany or history. With the current growth in the essential oils market, there is also the opportunity for a small home business for you!
Like most citrus, the Bergamot Orange tree does best outside in the sub-tropical/Mediterranean climates in the US – Florida, Texas, Southern California. If you give them enough light and water they will thrive indoors in containers wherever you live. When they bloom, your whole house will be filled with their delicious scent!
Nature Hills Nursery ships out large, three-year-old Bergamot Orange trees. This means that they are established and have extensive branching and some of the largest root systems available. We know that you won’t be disappointed!
