Pink Gumpo Satsuki Azalea
The Azalea Satsuki 'Pink Gumpo ', Rhododendron satsuki X 'Pink Gumpo', is a spreading shrub with a dwarf, compact habit to 2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. It produces large, soft pink, ruffled petals.
Satsuki means 'Fifth Month' and these varieties are late blooming in May and early June; the Satsuki azaleas break all the rules and blooms in late May and June while other azaleas bloom in March or early May. This shrub is an excellent extension to the Azalea flower season.
Gumpo azaleas are not as winter hardy as many of the more common evergreen azaleas. They are best suited for only Zone 7 and south. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Provide well drained soil, rich in organic matter. With its lush foliage on dense twiggy branches, 'Passionate Blush' is a lovely accent and welcome addition to the landscape.
