Order one of the most cold-hardy Azalea with rare golden orange color! The Golden Lights Azalea (Rhododendron 'Golden Lights') has rich and fragrant golden-yellow flowers in the spring with showy bronze-red fall foliage that is simply gorgeous! Butterflies and early-emerging bees arrive in swarms to sip nectar, and the warm yellow blooms may even attract a few Hummingbirds!
The flowers open from bright golden buds into orange blooms, each about an inch wide and held in huge clusters. It blooms a bit later in spring than most Azaleas, extending the Azalea show by a week or so. This hard-to-find shade of golden-orange Azalea is a very lovely big, well-proportioned shrub.
Golden Lights Azalea is one of the renowned Northern Lights™ Series of very cold-hardy Azaleas bred in Minnesota! It was designed in order to bring this glorious warm-climate shrub all the way through zone 3 to 7! Once the chill hits the air, these deciduous Azaleas become flushed in a bronze-red fall color before dropping their leaves for the year!
Golden Lights Azalea is the perfect easy-to-grow bush for borders and flowering hedges! Light up mixed-shrub hedges and your home's foundation with these 6-foot tall ornamental shrub that can spread 3-4 feet wide. Anchor and soften hardscape corners, and add enchanting yellow blossoms to your entry! Plant one on either side of your front steps or front door for a welcome display.
Large gardens are fantastic for showcasing this playful Azalea but don't worry, it'll also shine brightly in small spaces as well! Plant en masse or in long rows as screening and as backdrops to Rose, Cottage and Perennial borders. Create three-season privacy and outdoor seating with these upright blooming ornamentals!
Rhododendrons and Azaleas will tolerate full sun, especially up north. However, they'll grow best in partial shade. Although it thrives in cooler regions, it's a good idea to give them protection from the worst of the strong winter winds. However, you don't want to crowd them, as they do need good air circulation. Well-drained soil is a must. Ensure their roots have life-long symbiotic support with Nature Hills Root Booster used during planting. Remember not to plant these shallow-rooted plants too deeply. Mound them up in a hill of extra soil; leaving an inch or two of the root ball showing.
Mulch well and avoid disturbing its roots (which remain very near the surface), fertilize twice a year with an acid-loving formula, and water well throughout the growth period. Prune to shape and open the interior immediately after flowering and ever prune after mid-summer because those branches produce the next season's flowers.

Azaleas and Rhododendrons prefer partial shade (both dappled shade all day or morning sun with afternoon shade). Plant in a slightly acidic, consistently moist, enriched, and well-drained soil location for best results. Their shallow roots dislike soggy soil but thrive with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their surface.
Golden Lights Azalea can grow around 6 feet in height and 3-4 feet in width, when grown in optimal conditions.
Azalea and Rhododendron shrubs are very easy to grow and low maintenance. Water during drought, prune only after flowering and fertilize with an acid-loving organic, slow-release flowering plant fertilizer.
All Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhodondendrons are Azaleas. Azalea tends to be smaller-sized with smaller leaves and stems, while Rhododendrons can be larger with stout branching and larger bloom trusses. There can both be either deciduous or broad-leaved evergreens.
