Azaleas are one of the best know, broad-leaf evergreen plants. Their stalwart green presence in the landscape holds strong year-round, and they bust out an abundance of spring blooms. What's not to love? Encore® Autumn Lily® Azalea (Rhododendron 'Roblex') produces loads of sizable, 3-inch diameter snowy white spring blossoms the butterflies and Hummingbirds will adore!

Initially released in the 1990s, Encore® Azaleas are among the easiest Azaleas to grow. All Encore® varieties bloom in spring and then repeat the display from summer into fall. Dazzling further with the addition of those white re-blooming flower trusses, sporting an occasional, single purple stripe on the alabaster petals.

In the spring, these perfectly shaped plants are covered not just in spring, but summer, and fall as well. Looking great against the bright-green spring leaves. For the remainder of the year, these Azalea remain sturdy, upright, and with deep-green foliage.

The robust and upright evergreen of Autumn Lily® has a deep, lustrous hue that will hold strong all winter, and frost keeps the theme going by tinting the foliage a lovely purple cast. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 6 to 10, it is just one of the many fantastic Azaleas from the Encore® series that are easy to grow and low-maintenance!

Planting and Application:

Your Azalea creates an instant focal point to any landscape and works in any style garden. The strong growth and profuse blooms make Autumn Lily® perfect for providing four seasons of interest. The pure white, single bloom with an occasional purple stripe, adds drama and luminance to the part-shade garden and pairs with absolutely any other color. The blooms are wonderfully set off against a backdrop of deep-green foliage as Autumn Lily® forms a strong, superior, upright plant.

Try it mixed in with other Encore® Azaleas in pink or lavender, rising above smaller shrubs as a standout attention-getter. For a real head-turning display, pair it with the bright reds of Autumn Fire®. Your Azalea is an amazing accent in landscape borders and formal beds. These also look amazing as a tall accent interspersed among your shorter foundation plants. What lovely exclamation points to highlight your home!

Autumn Lily® looks great in large tubs or planters beside a doorway or your patio, as a beautiful specimen shrub, or when planted in a formal row along a walkway for privacy. Autumn Lily® will act as an impressive pair of sentries, flanking your sunny entry to welcome guests. Containers allow you to really set these wonderful plants apart and command attention!

#ProPlantTips For Care

This is one of the most cold-hardy of the Encore® broad-leaved evergreen Azaleas available, handling harsh winters in its growing zones without coddling. Hardy from growing zones 6 through 10, these Azalea are tough and easy-care when planted correctly. Be sure to choose a location that will receive 4-6 hours of direct sunlight. Autumn Lily® will benefit from dappled shade in the afternoons when located in hot climates. However, these Azaleas will grow in both full sun or part shade. For best flowering and repeat blooms, we recommend at least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Encores prefer organically rich medium and consistently moist, yet well-drained, acidic soil. Avoid wet or soggy soils and provide drainage in those areas. To keep the roots cool and moist, especially in the full sun or in hot growing zones, generously apply a layer of mulch over Azaleas roots.

Fertilize Encore Azaleas each spring with a slow-release acidic fertilizer to keep the blooms going strong all season long! Prune to shape only after the first, spring bloom is spent. Only prune flowering broad-leaved evergreen shrubs immediately after the flowers fade to avoid removing next year's spring display!

  • Full Sun - Part Shade
  • Enriched Well-Drained Organic Soil
  • Acidic Well-Drained Soils
  • Regular Moisture & Appreciates Mulched Beds
  • Heat & Drought Tolerant
  • Disease Resistant

Light up your landscape with this gorgeous re-blooming Encore® Autumn Lily® Azalea, and raise your landscape to new heights like never before! Order your instant accent from the Azalea experts at Nature Hills Nursery Today!

Azalea and Rhododendron Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to plant an Azalea bush?

Azaleas and Rhododendrons prefer partial shade (both dappled shade all day or morning sun with afternoon shade). Plant in a slightly acidic, consistently moist, enriched and well-drained soil location for best results. Their shallow roots dislike soggy soil but thrive with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their surface.

How big does an Azalea bush get?

Encore® Autumn Lily® Azalea can reach around 4-5 feet tall and spreads about 4 feet wide in optimal conditions.

Are Azalea bushes low maintenance?

Azalea and Rhododendron shrubs are very easy to grow and low maintenance. Water during drought, prune only after flowering and fertilize with an acid-loving organic, slow-release flowering plant fertilizer.

What is the difference between Rhododendrons and Azaleas?

All Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhodondendrons are Azaleas. Azalea tends to be smaller-sized with smaller leaves and stems, while Rhododendrons can be larger with stout branching and larger bloom trusses. There can both be either deciduous or broad-leaved evergreens.
