Audubon® Native Pin Oak

Availability: Out of stock

The National Audubon Society presents a new line of native plants and trees that helps birds and wildlife thrive in your area! The show-stopping Audubon® Native Pin Oak Tree (Quercus palustris) features form, durability, and fast growth! Farmers used the unique branchlets on these trees to 'pin' the beams of their barns, giving rise to the name.

Impressively fast-growing, especially while young, Pin Oak quickly becomes an elegant Shade Tree! The incredible fall color that develops from summer's dark green leaves, is in shades of deep range of russet, bronze, and red, and accented by the bountiful crops of acorns.

The Pin Oak's deeply incised foliage and bristly tips distinguish it from other Northern Oak family members. Pin Oaks leaves persist on the tree through winter unless blown off by winter storms. Beautiful dark, rich brown round acorns feed a plethora of wildlife and game birds, while the branching lends itself to bird-friendly habitat.

Planting and Application:

Pin Oak Trees had unique branching that's perfect for nesting and roosting birds, the kid's swing or a lawn chair under that luxuriously dense shade. One of the nicknames for this tree is Swamp Oak, so as you can imagine it's suited for Rain Gardens to capture and filter rainwater runoff.

The twiggy, strong branches make fine nesting sites for tree-dwelling birds. And it's adaptability is great for both rural and urban spaces, giving birds a boost. They're known to support Jays, Woodpeckers, Ducks, Turkeys, Wrens, Warblers, Chickadees, Cardinals and Mockingbirds!
