Jonagowas bred in the 21940s' as a cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathan. It can not pollinate other varieties. It is a large golden apple with large splashes of red.
The fruit has a thin skin with a sweet and slightly tart flavor. Jonagold Apple has a superb flavor - a connoisseurs' choice because it has excellent cooking properties. It is a cross of Jonathan and Golden Delicious. It does not store well, but is excellent for eating fresh, pies, sauces, and salads.
The tree is handsome, sturdy, vigorous and spreading; annually productive. The apples ripen from mid-September to late October, depending on the location.
It can be pollinated by Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith or Red Delicious, but not Golden Delicious.
