Blue Ice Amsonia
A 3-season Native Star
For now, Blue Ice Blue Star (Amsonia ‘Blue Ice’) is not a common perennial that you’ll find at your local big box store. You won’t see many growing in your neighborhood. People will stop and ask you “Just what is it that you’ve got there?”
For now…but that won’t last long. Blue Star is such a great native plant (its common name is Arkansas Blue Star) that it will shortly be a staple in gardens.
Why not be the first on your block to have some?
It’s hard to choose which is better – the beautiful star-shaped dark blue flowers that cover the plant in the spring, or the cloud of leafy willow-like leaves that turn such a bright golden-yellow in the fall you almost need sunglasses to look directly at them. You can’t go wrong either way.
Blue Ice Blue Star provides three great seasons of color and texture in your garden. They thrive in average soil in full sun to part shade. They don’t need staking to stand up tall and true. The only pruning necessary is to cut the seed heads off in the fall, unless you want more seedlings – this native love to reseed.
Don’t wait for the neighbors to buy these great native plants before you. Be the first to buy some from Nature Hills. You’ll be very happy you did.
