Blue Eddy Allium
Perennial with Long-Lasting, Showy Blooms
Blue Eddy Allium is a hardy perennial with long-lasting, showy blooms. Plant several throughout your perennial bed or other areas where they can pop up and color your summer with their little spheres of lavender/pink color.
Blue Eddy Allium is of course valued for its marvelous flowers, but the unique foliage is also a strong attraction. The long, thin leaves reach up from the ground only to gently twist and turn in a graceful dance as they grow, creating the effect of motion, or an “eddy”.
The blue-green shade of the leaves further adds to the image of a swirling “blue eddy” for which they are named. It’s already a striking plant with only this unusual characteristic.
However, when late summer arrives, 1.5-inch round clusters of lavender/pink flowers appear to add to the attraction. Sitting atop the tall stems that shoot up from the foliage of the Blue Eddy below, the clusters appear as floral balls that gently sway in the summer breeze.
Your Blue Eddy Allium will attract butterflies and other pollinators love it, but deer will leave it alone. The flower when cut is excellent in floral arrangements, and is also useful in various crafts when dried.
Plant the Blue Eddy in your yard to enjoy it’s unique blooms while bringing texture and motion to your landscape.
