Violet Purple Showers
Waves of Electricity
Violet Purple Showers, Viola 'Purple Showers', is very appropriately named! The large 2" electric purple flowers will shower your landscape nearly all spring and summer! Butterflies and hummingbirds love them.
'Purple Showers' blooms profusely in spring and then continues with sporadic flowering until fall.
The 8" flower stems rise nicely above the foliage and make excellent cut flowers.
Violets grow best in cool, moist, shady environments. In the north, plants can tolerate full sun but prefer partial to full shade.
Shade from deciduous trees is ideal because the plants growing below receive full sun in the spring followed by protection from the harsh summer sun once the trees get their leaves.
If plants are cut back after the first bloom cycle, they will likely bloom again in the fall.
Deadheading spent flowers will prolong the blooming season and promote a new flush of growth.
Use this plant as a groundcover or as an edge. It also makes a great container plant!
Enjoy the dancing blooms atop the low mounds of glossy green, heart-shaped leaves!
