Tree height and width is important. Some trees are more upright and others may have a spread of 30 to 40 feet. A tree hedge will need room for a vastly larger root system than a shrub hedge would need. Plan and provide the room required for the individual tree species you choose. When a plant grows outside of the bounds it was intended for, pruning will become a necessity. Hedges can be created with a mixture of trees. The plant distribution could be as follows: Plant taller trees at the back, shorter trees in the middle, and a shrub plant in front for excellent privacy and noise abatement qualities.
