Arborvitae - American
Tall and Elegant Privacy Tree
The American Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis, is a conifer evergreen tree that is widely used as an accent tree or as a privacy tree. Tall and elegant, this low maintenance tree has become very popular as a privacy screen.
Plant them 10 feet apart to rcreate a living privacy wall, use two for an amazing accent for entryways or plant a single one to soften a corner of your house.
American Arborvitae trees have a broad pyramidal shape with erect branches that are dense and crowded together. The scale-like leaves are soft to the touch and abruptly pointed.
The leaf color is bright green above and pale green below, and they may turn a yellow brown is some winters.
Once established, this evergreen can stand considerable heat and drought.
Because of its pyramid shape it becomes a natural and popular choice for windbreaks and year around privacy screening.
