Sweet William - Double Mix
The Sweet William Double Blend, 'Dianthus barbatus', is prized as a long lasting cut flower and it fills the flower void between spring bulbs, but before summer annuals. The Double Blend is an attractive 18 inch dome of a myriad of beautiful flower colors. The 1/2 inch flowers occur in densely packed flattened heads, 3 to 5 inches in diameter. The flowers colors are white, pink, rose, red, purplish, and bicolored. Sweet Williams bloom in late spring for about 4 weeks.
Sweet William prefers full sun and light sandy, well drained soil. Dianthus prefer a fairly a slightly alkaline and rich soil. Shear off faded blooms and the plant may come back and bloom the following year. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. The Sweet William easily reseeds and is always a garden guest.
