The Stevia, ‘Stevia’ rebaudiana, is a tender perennial, native to semi-humid subtropical regions.
Stevia is a natural sweetener that is non-glycemic and non-caloric, but is 10 times sweeter than sugar. Just biting into a leaf is like tasting a sugar cube. A couple of leaves can sweeten a pot of tea or coffee!
This plant will grow to about 1-2 feet tall and wide. We ship in our large 4 1/2" pots. This plant is an annual and grows well in full sun.
‘Stevia’ is tolerant of most soil types, but prefers a sandy loam. Any well-drained soil that produces a good crop of vegetables should work for ‘Stevia’.
‘Stevia’ can be a rewarding herb to grow and will fit nicely into a small garden. It doesn't like to dry out, but standing water will encourage rot and disease. Using raised beds will prevent "wet feet," while an organic mulch and frequent watering ensure a constant supply of moisture.
