The Salvia Black and Blue, Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Blue’, is a tall and attractive plant that has an upright growth habit which reaches 2 to 3 feet in height. The bi-colored blooms are 3/4 of an inch in size and occur in both spring and the fall.

This selection of the hardy anise sage differs from the norm in that the calyx (the little cup that holds the open flower) is black instead of the usual green!

It enjoys warm temperatures and is moderately drought tolerant. The dark, denim blue flowers with black bases appear to be made by a flower designer because of its striking beauty.

The ‘Black and Blue’ Salvia mixes well with other beautiful summer flowering perennials. This eye catching Salvia offers abundant deep blue cobalt blue tubular blooms that are an absolute favorite of hummingbirds. They are hardy to 15 degrees.

‘Black and Blue’ is indispensable for your garden or containers if you want pretty, bright, flowers to enjoy in the garden and in arrangements!

This plant can be a perennial in zones 9-11. In zones 3-8 it is an annual only.

A must have Review by Bren
This is one of the prettiest plants in my garden. Not only are the blossoms great color, the leaves are very showy and green. On the Mississippi coast be sure and plant in a place you want year after year. Pansy for the fall and in the spring the salvia emerges. Beautiful at the base of my white crepe myrtle.
Upright plant Review by Duwon
I liked the way the black and blue salvia stood up straight for me this summer and did not fall over like some salvia do.
homeowner Review by Sharon Throm
This salvia performed very well. I live in southeast Michigan. It provided beautiful height for the center of a long bed. The color is wonderful. An added bonus is that hummingbirds LOVE this flower. It was not unusual to look out and see two or three at a time feeding on the blossoms. Although it has survived several nights of temps of 30 degrees, it will not winter over here. It will definitely be in my garden next year.
