River Birch

Grow the hardy, fast growing Birch in almost any state.

The River Birch (Betula nigra) is the most planted Birch in the United States and the best one for hot climates. It is a tree that has something to offer for every season.

Famous for its peeling bark which is beautiful all year. The light tan outer layer peeling back to reveal beautiful salmon and cinnamon colored patches beneath is truly stunning in the winter. The graceful branches and the colorful, textured bark are sure to brighten even the darkest winter day.

In the spring your River Birch will awake to grow new light green leaves and female catkins that stand up on the ends of the branches. As the leaves mature in the summer they are a beautiful, shiny, dark green almost diamond shaped leaf.

The River Birch will transform again in the fall. The male catkins will emerge dripping from the branches and the leaves will turn a brilliant butter-yellow, sure to light up any landscape.

The River Birch is the hardiest of all Birches. It’s a fast growing, trouble free tree that is sure to delight in every season.

* Immune to the Bronze Birch Borer
* Fast growing (up to 3 feet a year)
* Tolerant to wet soil

We have a low spot that gathers water that drains off of 2 yards. I have lost several plants there because I think it was too wet. A friend suggested a river birch. This tree has been there 3 years now and is growing fast.
Awesome Trees Review by Brian

We have 3 river birch in our yard. One up front and two in the backyard. They add great beauty, privacy and shade to the yard. The trees have all grown to mature size and look awesome. Neighbors, friends and family always tell us how great they look. Several have even planted river birch in their own yards, after seeing ours. We love our river birch trees.
my easter tree Review by victimof trees

the lovliest tree I have ever had in my 45 years of gardening planted 29 years ago. Big ice storm this year broke off the top of 1 of 5 trunks. This tree live well through bag worms tent worms & wind so high it bowed down in 5 direction OKla storms are very bad but the ice probable killed it Ill wait till easter to dicide if I should cut it down, also heaving clay & dry hot summers are bad so water early in the day & deeply.
beautiful tree Review by d

We had a river birch in our landscape of our previous home. It was a quick growing tree and when pruned properly it truly looked like a more expensive specimen tree. The peeling bark is beautiful all year long. It will definitely be added to the landscape of our new home.
