The Rhododendron 'Hachmann's Polaris', Rhododendron 'Hachmann's Polaris', is a compact and mounding shrub with dense, fuzzy foliage. A profuse bloomer, it produces up to three buds per shoot. It buds young and keeps performing; young plants are very dense and compact, spreading with age. Reddish buds open to a lavender-pink edged flower with a paler throat. These frilly pink flowers, with their ruffled darker edgings, cover the plant in late midseason. Its dark green leaves have a hint of indumentum on the underside. When choosing a planting location, avoid hot, dry areas, open exposed sites, or low-lying places that are prone to become frost pockets. 'Hachmann's Polaris' grows best in well-drained, lime free soils that are rich in organic matter and have the capacity to retain plenty of moisture in dry weather.
