Fraser's Photinia, 'Photinia X fraseri', produces leaves that are brilliant red at first then turn deep green after several weeks. This evergreen shrub is a traditional hedge shrub in the southern United States.
The Fraser's Photinia is also know as 'Red Tip' or 'Red Top'. The Photinia produces small white flowers in the spring. This plant is extremely tough and vigorous and grows in almost any well drained soil. Red Tip makes for tall, dense hedges. If a formal hedge is desired, it can be sheared. Prune in the winter. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.
For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape.
