The Zephirine Drouhin rose has a fragrance which fills the air with each large bloom. It prospers in alkaline soil, pollution, and shade. It's also a beautiful rose, opening large, sweetly fragrant, deep rose flowers (on nearly thornless stems) throughout the season.

Zephirine Drouhin roses are perfect for covering a wall or climbing over an arch. The coppery-purple new growth is a vivid contrast.

Planted 2 of these last spring to cover an archway in the back of the yard & they are blooming beautifully & have just about reached the top of the arch (approx 7 ft)this year. This spot in the yard only gets early morning & very late afternoon sun so Ive had trouble with other types of climber roses just not growing or blooming but this one is definately a winner! Also very few thorns so the walkway through the arch is actually usable. Would highly recommend for problem areas with poor soil & not enough sun for average roses. We are zone 4-5 so all I did to winterize them last year was to pile mulch along the base & I did not cut them back at all which I think allowed them to cover the arch in 1 year.

I planted this rose two years ago and its been the easiest and most beautiful rose Ive ever grown. I have it on a trellis next to the pool in a raised bed. The lack of thorns makes it perfect for color and NO bite. Especially with small children and plastic blow-up toys flying around! Not being a real green thumb with roses, this makes it possible to have one thrive and feel/look like I know what im doing!
