I grew up in eastern VA, and have missed the old plants. This is one that stole my heart years ago. I now live in upstate NY and have just found they grow here.

beautiful plant and grows well, 7/17/2008 3:10:07 PM

I bought two of these so far. They are growing well, blooming beautifully. They look gorgeous. The flowers stay with the plant a couple of days instead of dropping off immediately like the hibiscus plants. I love the look of this plant. It is just spectacular. I will note that I use miracle grow potting soil and garden soil, perlite, and organic compost and humus all of which can be gotten at most garden stores or Wal-mart garden stores. It is just a gorgeous plant. I love Rose of Sharon plants. They grow well, bloom well, and look great all summer. And yes it will take a few years for them to achieve the full adult size; won't happen in one summer but they are a good solid plant to have. I live in mid-Missouri. And I do mulch them well as with all plants.
