Product Description:

‘Stella de Oro’ (sometimes spelled Stella d’Oro) has become a bona fide garden favorite, with almost too many benefits to mention. This perfect daylily (a former “Perennial of the Year”) has fragrant, ruffly buttercup-yellow flowers with apricot throats that measure about 2-½ inches across, against forest-green swordlike foliage. Plants normally get about a foot high and a foot or two wide, and can take the heat and drought of hot climates; it can even thrive in clay and acid soils. It’s a repeat bloomer, and will keep painting your garden with vivid color from May through July. ‘Stella de Oro’ prefers full sun and soil with good drainage; if you comply, you attract hummingbirds and butterflies, while discouraging rabbits and insects. Great in containers for small spaces, apartments and patios; exquisite for cut flowers, mass plantings and borders. It’s free of daylily rust disease and will even grow under Black Walnut trees. Zones 2-9.

Thrives even in heavy clay...
Reviewer: Valdo, 5/21/2007 2:41:58 PM
I got this daylily in March and it is now May and I have about 12 flower buds and 2 flowers on our 2 daylilies. These flowers seems to thrive in our heavy red clay soil while many others simply die from the poor drainage. I would definetly recommend this perennial to any novice gardener.
