The Souixland Cottonwood tree, Populus deltoides, 'Siouxland', is a very fast growing, cottonless cottonwood with a rounded head at maturity. These Cottonwood trees display shimmering foliage which is rust resistant. Cottonless Cottonwood trees are not only fast growing seedless hybrid, they also do well in dry conditions.

This deciduous tree has large ornamental and glossy leaves. It tolerates alkaline conditions and pollutants. This Cottonwood tree is pyramidal in form and is fast growing. Up to 4-5 foot of growth per year is not uncommon in good soil. The Cottonwood trees exhibit a yellow fall color. This tree provides good shade and cover for wildlife.

I live in the boonies north of Reno and have went through quite a few trees that didnt like the soil, etc. I planted four bare root cottonwoods in June and they have grown over a foot and have beautiful big leaves. I am in the process of ordering more of these great cottonwoods from Nature Hills Nursery.

We bought 10 cottonwood trees and planted them in May 06. All the trees are over 5 " tall now. If we have the same rate of growth next year we will finally have some shade here. We will be buying more as we live on 3 acres with no trees.

I planted this tree in December,2005. Last spring it grew about 2.5 feet but by August it had developed mites and lost about half of its leaves. This year was an exact repeat of last. Seven kills the mites but when the tree grows to a larger size I really wont be able to fight them. Also, this year and last have been extremely hot with no rain. Ive finally taken to watering it in hopes that it will help the tree fight disease and the mites. I really cant complain about the tree, as growing conditions here have been horrible since I planted it. I hope it survives but am not too optimistic.
