The Platycodon ‘Sentimental Blue Balloon Flower’, Platycodon grandiflorum, is a low growing perennial with blue, balloon like flowers that bloom in late May until August. (The flowers should be deadheaded to increase bloom time.) The blooms puff up before opening and have a wonderful green foliage. With a plant spread of 8-12” and a height of 8”, it is one that should be in every perennial garden.

Sentimental Blue Balloon Flower is one of the best perennial bloomers I have ever had in my garden. They plants stay compact and are perfect for my small garden. I have found that these perennials do extremely well in areas of the garden that get morning sun and afternoon shade. They tend to get more blooms and the foliage stays a much deeper green in these conditions. A perfect addition to any garden.

Is Love to strong a word for a plant? I think not! I Love the Sentimental Blue. Easy to grow, very heat & cold tolerant, beautiful blooms, deep green foilage....& I never planted it in the ground! I keep mine in pots & leave them outside during the spring, summer & early fall, then bring indoors during winter (even though they are cold tolerant) just to brighten my day!

Have had it for one season, doing great in full sun mounded bed, even self seeded, numerous flowers very pronounced against green foliage, only drawback is flower petals can look messy for a couple days after they die off until they fall to ground, or you can spend the time tidying them yourself, great small plant so far.
