Product Description:

The River Birch tree, Betula Nigra, is a very handsome tree for estates, parks, golf courses and any other large areas. It displays a light reddish brown cinnamon bark that peels and flakes to give that beautiful look that the birch family is noted for. Plant as a specimen, or as a windbreak, plant 20’ apart in the row. It is excellent in wet soil.

The River Birch has dark green summer foliage and turns a golden yellow in the fall. Best adapted to moist, acid soils, but will survive dry soils. Not bothered by the bronze birch borer. Native, graceful branching, easy to transplant; best not to prune in spring - sap "bleeds" and is heat tolerant. This deciduous tree can withstand extended periods of flooding. The River Birch trees are beautiful in the summer and winter, are widely adaptable, and heat tolerant.

beautiful tree
Reviewer: d, 8/15/2006 1:30:26 PM
We had a river birch in our landscape of our previous home. It was a quick growing tree and when pruned properly it truly looked like a more expensive specimen tree. The peeling bark is beautiful all year long. It will definitely be added to the landscape of our new home.

Reviewer: victimof trees, 2/4/2008 10:35:50 PM
the lovliest tree I have ever had in my 45 years of gardening planted 29 years ago. Big ice storm this year broke off the top of 1 of 5 trunks. This tree live well through bag worms tent worms & wind so high it bowed down in 5 direction OKla storms are very bad but the ice probable killed it Ill wait till easter to dicide if I should cut it down, also heaving clay & dry hot summers are bad so water early in the day & deeply.
