Product Description:

The Pin Oak tree, Quercus palustris, is probably the most widely used native oak for landscaping. One of the faster growing oaks; it can grow 12 to 15’ over a 5 to 7 year period. Pin Oak trees have moderate water requirements and have a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils.

This deciduous tree prospers in a range of soil types including wet soils. It has pyramidal, dense, pendulous lower branches when mature. It loses it lower limbs with age. Young trees and lower branches of older trees hold leaves throughout winter. Transplants well.

A nice tree for the front lawn
Reviewer: Joe234, 10/9/2006 2:47:38 PM
Our pin oak is about twelve years old and some 45 feet tall. Montreal is a zone five area. Strangely, our tree keeps its leaves (brown by then) all winter. They drop off just before the buds come in the spring. The winter photos I have seen on various web sites all show a leafless tree. This means that, with the tree to the south of the house we get some shade in the winter.

Keeps its leaves in Colorado too

Pin oaks keep their leaves in the winter in Colorado (Boulder). Good if you plant it for privacy, not so good if you expect solar gain in winter.

OUR PIN OAKS

We live in Himeville,in the Southern Drakensberg Mountains area in South Africa. We have 2 magnificent Pin oak trees in our garden. They stand about 60 feet high and they are lovely and green whilst it is spring and moving into summer in South Africa. Our greatest past time is to sit under the trees on a blanket sipping a long tall cooldrink.
