Nikko needs LOTS of acid
Reviewer: Marcia, 12/5/2006 1:36:21 AM
My Nikko Blues have grown well, but only once have I been able to add enough Aluminum Sulfate to get them all "blue." They dont do pink in my soil, only cream/green. This Fall I added up to 1 cup of AS and barely got a blue tinge.

Beautiful Dried

I grew up in Connecticut, and the woman across the street had all colors of Hydrangea in front of her victorian home. They also made beautiful dried arrangments that kept their color.

Hydrangea Review

My Nikkos have always given me a true blue. I must have a total of about twenty five hydrangea in my yard. After having had all blues, this year Ive seen from a deep dark purple to a very rich bright pink. I suppose that the soil in my yard varies quite a bit.

Hydrangea- Niko Blue
Reviewer: Anne Fitzsimons, 8/5/2008 7:15:49 PM
MY Niko Blue, when it blooms, is beautiful. The plant is very healthy and grows to 5 or 6 feet, even when I have cut them back to the ground to restore it. However, I live in Southwestern Michigan and for the past 3 years they have not bloomed well. The old wood, which they grow on has died and is replaced with many new stalks, but then end up getting hurt during the winter and then once again it does not bloom the next spring. I am ready to pull all 6 of them out and replace them with a different kind of hydrangea. The strange thing is, I have 4 in my back yard and the one that is the smallest, always seems to be o.k.

Nikko's doing great
Reviewer: jaspurr28, 7/6/2009 7:34:34 PM
I wanted to plant blue Hydrangeas along the fence going up the side of the house in the front yard so I originally set out to find Endless Summer but found Nikko Blue instead. I am quite surprised and happy to find that Nikko blue has been doing incredible and are the true light blue I was looking for. I just give them about 1/2 a cup around each plant of Aluminum Sulfate in the early spring to make sure the blue comes out. I have 7 along the fence and I planted them last year. They did okay for their first year. They are all doing excellent and are HUGE this year with many blossoms. One is a little smaller but I planted that over a rock that I couldn't dig out completely as it was too big when planting the bush, but it still does well and grows healthy. I live in Bristol, RI and have gotten a ton of comments on them this past July 4th during our big July 4th parade weekend. I am quite pleased with the outcome of the Nikko Blue Hydrangea.

i was given a nikko blue hydrangea several years ago--it always grows good foliage but the deer eat the buds each winter so i have only had blooms the first two years--so i haven't tried any other hydrangeas yet
