The Mutsu Apple has a moderately sweet flavor with firm, juicy and cramy white flesh. Its skin color is a yellowish green with an orange blush. The Mutsu apple is also known as Crispin. This apple is vigorous, fairly early, and the fruit is large and oblong shaped. It is excellent for fresh eating, sauces, pies, and baking. This apple stores and keeps well.

Though I dont yet have this variety in my small orchard, I pick yearly from local growers and this fruit is large and tart but not too tart. The skin is not bitter and the pulp is firm. My children love to eat it raw and I have baked wonderful pies and crisps. They keep well and have become a family favorite. I will be adding them to my garden.

I recently purchased Mutsu Apples in Oak Glen, CA. They are delicious for eating, make the best apple pie Ive ever eaten and are terrific for applesauce also. They retain their shape in the pies and dont get all mushy in the applesauce. Would highly recommend this apple!
