The Lilac' Miss Kim', Syringa patula 'Miss Kim', is a very popular shrub. It is thought by many to be the number one Lilac in the Midwestern United States. The Miss Kim Lilac is compact and upright-rounded in form. It has an abundance of fragrant blossoms in spring that are dark lavender-pink in bud and fade to a very soft lavender-pink when fully opened. The blossoms are even more plentiful when it is planted in full sun.

Miss Kim has the best fall color of any Lilac, a reddish purple. Compact and upright-rounded in form, it slowly grows to five feet tall and wide. This shrub is resistant to powdery mildew, but suffers under prolonged drought conditions, when it may drop many of its leaves. The Miss Kim Lilac makes a wonderful shrub for foundation plantings

Answer from Nature Hills: The Miss Kim lilac will do well in zones 3 – 7 and I believe Hot Springs Arkansas is in growing zone 7.

I grew up in Illinois with a Miss Kim in my yard and I have always looked foward to May when it would bloom. But now I live in zone 8 and was wondering if I would be able to grow a lilac like Miss Kim.

Answer from Nature Hills: The Miss Kim grows in Zones 3 – 7.

I have a Miss Kim lilac planted on the southeast corner of my house, which is in zone 7 and has terrible red clay soil. We did amend the soil as best we could when we planted, which was about 5 years ago. The lilacs have been beautiful, and the bush is filled with blooms every year!

I fell in love with lilacs when I was in Chicago last year. I planted 3 Miss Kims in my yard last summer. They get full sun in the morning and dappled afternoon shade. They are also sheltered by a wooden fence. They are loaded with blossoms this spring that are just beginning to open. So far...so good.

They are a beautiful shrub, but this is the second one I have had to replace, as they keep dying. I am doing everything the Nursery where I bought it is telling me to do, and they last about 3 weeks and start to die. I dont think I am watering it too much, and I am fertilizing it also.
