The Lily of the Valley, 'Convallaria majalis', is a fragrant white Lily-of-the-Valley that is unusual because its bell-shaped flowers are actually double! Each arching stem is actually weighed down by the profuse blooms it carries. Plant in a garden with good air circulation to prevent fungal spots on the petals. This perennial thrives in moist, humus-rich, fertile soil, in sun or full shade. The more sun there is however, the more important it is for the soil to be moist. Late spring flowers of 'Flore Pleno' are white, double, bell-shaped, pendant, fragrant and waxy. Grows to 9" tall.

Of all the flowers in the garden, the Lily of the Valley is my most beloved. I grew up waiting for them to bloom at the side of our house every spring. This is one of my most treasure memories of my grandparents home when I was growing up. Whenever I smell a Lily of the Valley I am transported back in time to a time when things were more kind and loving.

My Mother grew Lily of the Valley in the corner of our house and our sunporch. I love the smell of this little jewels. I am buying a home now and plan to make a bed by the side of my house by my porch to plant some of these wonderful little flowers that make me think of my Mom and of happier times as a child.
